Spirit Day
"Millions of Americans wear purple on Spirit Day as a sign of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying. Spirit Day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany McMillan as a response to the young people who had taken their own lives. Observed annually on October 20, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals and celebrities wear purple, which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag. Getting involved is easy -- participants are asked to simply "go purple" on October 20 as we work to create a world in which LGBT teens are celebrated and accepted for who they are."-glaad

an article to quote
Hopefully, everyone has read Wheelock Whitney's editorial in the Strib about why republicans should support marriage equality. If you haven't, Click HERE to read it.
"I oppose the amendment as a businessperson. A key to fostering a strong economic climate is attracting and retaining the best talent. Period. Gay men and lesbians are among the most talented people out there. Needless and hurtful laws like the proposed marriage amendment drive them away. They also drive away innovative people of any sexual orientation who simply want to live in a place that respects and celebrates the diversity of life."- WHEELOCK WHITNEY

Have a Gay "Weekend" at the Uptown Theatre
HOMO:film
"Weekend is a disarmingly delicate and daring drama set in Nottingham, England and featuring breakout performances by Tom Cullen and Chris New. After hanging out with his straight mates on a Friday night, Russell (Cullen) heads out to a gay club. Just before closing time he picks up an artist named Glen (New) and unexpectedly spends most of the next 48 hours with him in bedrooms and bars, telling stories and having sex. As they spend more time together, sharing snippets of their lives, they begin to reveal the things that hold them back as much as push them forward and develop a connection that will resonate throughout their lives. Weekend is an affecting and naturalistic romance, a beautiful exploration of how two people can come together only briefly, yet impact each other in a profound way. Winner of the Grand Jury Award for Outstanding International Dramatic Feature at the 2011 Outfest Film Festival and the Emerging Visions Audience Award for Best Film at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival. Written and directed by Andrew Haigh (Greek Pete)." via Landmark Theatre
Weekend will run for one week only. It opens Friday, Oct 21st with shows at (2:30 4:45) 7:10 9:30 at the Uptown Theater.
Check the theater's website for other days show times.

one year to victory
Minnesotans United for All Families will start the one year countdown to Election Day 2012 with their "One Day United for All Families" house party.
On Nov 6th, 2011, people across the state will be hosting parties in their homes. While the goal is to raise money for MUAF to defeat the amendment, it is also a great reminder that the vote is one year away. It will take ALL OF US to help defeat it.

Happy National Coming OUT Day!
Put on your gayest outfit (no, not that one, the other one) and celebrate National Coming Out Day!
"NCOD was founded in 1988 by Robert Eichberg, a psychologist from New Mexico and Jean O'Leary, an openly-gay political leader from Los Angeles, on behalf of the personal growth workshop The Experience and National Gay Rights Advocates.[3][4] The date of October 11 was chosen because it was the anniversary of the 1987 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.[5]
The first headquarters was located in the West Hollywood, California offices of the National Gay Rights Advocates. 18 states participated in the first NCOD, which was covered in the national media. In its second year, the headquarters moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and participation grew to 21 states. After a media push in 1990, NCOD was observed in all 50 states and seven other countries. Participation continued to grow and in 1990 NCOD merged their efforts with the Human Rights Campaign Fund." via Wikipedia

covers to come out to
In honor of National Coming out Day, we found some of our favorite "coming out songs." As a twist, we thought we'd post some fun covers of Katy Perry's "Fireworks," Ke$sha's "we r who we r," Pink's "Raise your glass," Gaga's "Born this way" & Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

Karl Rove gets glitter bombed - “Feel the rainbow!”
image via advocate.com |
Karl Rove & Erik Paulson, two people who seriously don't understand equality, both got a face-full-of-glitter here in MN. The conference was called the Minnesota Faith and Freedom Coalition. (freedom? how about the freedom for us to marry....)
"The first glitter assault occurred as congressman Erik Paulsen was presented with a “Friend of the Family” award for his efforts to legalize antigay values. “You’re no friend to my family!” Michael Cahill said, as he unleashed the colorful dust. Later, Bush staffer Karl Rove was doused at a book signing by Ben Egerman, who shouted “Feel the rainbow!” as he showered the former Deputy Chief of Staff with glitter." - Winston Gieseke, advocate
Click HERE to watch Paulson get a face full of glitter
Click HERE to see Rove get it
PS who thinks "you're no friend to my family" would look great on a protest poster
PSS, I can't wait for social conservatives to have their security do "glitter checks" on guests before speaking. (What would Egerman & Cahill say? "we're just totally into crafting")

Minneapolis landed at #10
Minneapolis landed at #10 for the cities that spend the most on coffee. (so.....yay???)
"Over half of American adults drink coffee on a regular basis, but the amount they spend on it has a lot to do with which city they live in, according to business and personal finance site bundle.com. The site found which cities spend the most on coffee based on trends at 16 well-known coffee chains like Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks and Sumptown." - Harry Bradford, Huffpo

I guess other towns would drink more coffee if they had wonderful places like Wilde Roast Cafe and Cuppa Java to drink at

Republicans Against the Minnesota Marriage Amendment
Do consertive politics turn you on? As a man, does Mitt Romney make you want to spend long nights discussing the tax code by a fire, just the two of you, in a rustic log cabin? If your a lady, does the thought of Sarah Palin (ok, to be honest, we had a really good palin-hunting-joke... but we can't remember it... so make up your own and pretend we wrote it)
Well than the "Republicans Against the Minnesota Marriage Amendment" is the group for you.
They have a well written statement that I think everyone should read.
Even if the thought of trickle down economics doesn't oil your gears, check them out. You can quote them when your talking to your dumb uncle who thinks dude-on-dude weddings are evil.
Click HERE to network with them on facebook
"An amendment purporting to protect marriage will not protect actual marriages. It will not do anything to promote or enhance existing marriages. At the same time, it piles on barrier after barrier to the legal protection of a few Minnesota families. It sends a message of division and exclusion, telling some Minnesota families that they are worthless in the eyes of the state." - f.book
