see Northeast for the first time or with new eyes

Field Trip Day MPLS
Saturday, September 28th 2012
2p-8p
Dusty's Bar
1318 Marshall st NE

Field Trip Day is dedicated to the art of the wander. Come and see Northeast for the first time or with new eyes: for on this one day she will reveal herself through over 30 quirky, historic, artsy and just plain odd destinations.

Meander with us through one of the oldest and most beloved neighborhoods in the city. Explore the labyrinthian confines of sprawling artist studios, happen upon tiny secret doorways, bask in the glow of gilded religious iconography, see enormous puppets come to life, or play bocce ball a-top a mass grave -- Northeast Minneapolis is your oyster. Together we'll find hidden places, discover secret histories, and unearth the unusual.

There are no right choices, no wrong turns - but there are treasures to be uncovered just out of sight.

statement from Faith Director for Minnesotans United for All Families

The following is a statement from Grant Stevensen, a pastor at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul and Faith Director for Minnesotans United for All Families. Below this statement is an open letter to Minnesotans from some of the state’s most prominent clergy members urging a respectful debate around the marriage amendment.

An Open Letter to Minnesotans

In the heat of a debate like this one – the debate over the proposed constitutional amendment that would limit the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian couples – people naturally feel very passionate about their position and opinion. That passion – when used for good – inspires Minnesotans on all sides of this conversation to take action and get involved in our community. But occasionally, that passion spills past the boundaries of civil discourse and action.

Recent events have suggested that the debate over the proposed marriage amendment is likely to get even more intense in the next 40 days. Reports of golf balls thrown through car windows, confrontations at the State Fair, and acts of violence in greater Minnesota have sprung up in recent weeks. We know that this is not the manner of debate that we have always and continue to strive for in the state of Minnesota.

55 percent of Minnesotans will be obese by 2030

Fire up your ipod and head over for the gym.

The Trust for American's Heath and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that at the current rate,
over half (55%) of Minnesotans will be Obese by 2030.

Overall,  Minnesota is the 36th most obese state.

Which State is Most Obese?  Why that would be Misssissippi.  35% of their current population is Obese.

The report doesn't go into details about how or why, they just did some magic math.

The report states:
By 2030, obesity-related health care costs in Minnesota could climb by 15.7 percent, which could be the 26th highest increase in the country. Nationally, nine states could see increases of more than 20 percent, with New Jersey on course to see the biggest increase at 34.5 percent. Sixteen states and Washington, D.C., could see increases between 15 percent and 20 percent.

Minnesota Viking's Aweosome letter

Chris Kluwe (punter for the Vikings) is awesome.

In an open letter to homophobic Maryland state delegate Emmett C. Burns Jr, Kluwe states:

"I find it inconceivable that you are an elected official of Maryland's state government. Your vitriolic hatred and bigotry make me ashamed and disgusted to think that you are in any way responsible for shaping policy at any level." - Chris Kluwe

"How does gay marriage, in any way shape or form, affect your life? If gay marriage becomes legal, are you worried that all of a sudden you'll start thinking about penis? "Oh shit. Gay marriage just passed. Gotta get me some of that hot dong action!"- Chris Kluwe

" They won't magically turn you into a lustful cockmonster."-Chris Kluwe

As you can tell, the letter is awesome.
